Environmental Study Overview

The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requires governmental agencies to assess the potential effects of a proposed project in advance to determine what impacts the project may have on the human and natural environment, and related mitigation measures.

The Mobility Authority and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) are developing the 290 Extension Project environmental study cooperatively with other local partners. The environmental study being conducted on this project is an Environmental Assessment (EA). An EA is a public document that includes an analysis of alternatives (including a “no build” alternative) and an assessment of potential impacts to the human and natural environment. Please note, a glossary of NEPA terms is available to use while reviewing the information on this website.

The study will assess the direct and indirect impacts, as well as mitigation measures, of proposed transportation improvements to the environment. More on direct and indirect impacts can be found in project FAQs.

Public involvement is a crucial element of the EA process. The Mobility Authority is committed to open and ongoing communication and will proactively engage with the community throughout this study. View more information on public input.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 9, 2019, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
